Home invasion supect makes poor choice

Houston Chronicle:

A suspected home invader died after he was shot while breaking into a southwest Houston apartment Thursday, authorities said.

...

The suspects pried open the front door and pushed the couch on its side. One of them pointed a pistol at the resident. The man who lived there also was armed and opened fire, striking the intruder, police said.

The wounded suspect collapsed on the balcony. He was dead at the scene.

...
The other intruder ran away. It sounds like a neighborhood where it pays to be armed and where it does not pay to break in. In places that bar ownership of handguns the residents would have been at the mercy of the bad guys.
