The Brit-French aircraft carrier merger

Guy Walters, Daily Mail piece looks at the folly of merging the efforts on aircraft carriers. The French experience with them is limited. They have had to dismantle their one aircraft carrier because of asbestos contamination. There have been few joint naval operations between the French and the British. The only one at the present involves the mission fighting the pirates off the coast of Somalia. That has not involved any aircraft carriers.

Can you imagine how the Brits could have responded to the situation in Falklands if they had to get the go ahead from France?  In the Iraq war the two were almost on opposite sides.
