A Marine civil affairs group returned home to the Washington D.C. area after completing its latest tour in Iraq. The Washington Post reports:...There is more. The photo is of Lt. Col. John Church, of Wayne, Penn., and his four-month-old son Travis Joseph Church. They both appear happy to see each other.None of the Marines in the unit was killed, but five were seriously injured during the six months they spent in Iraq beginning last September.
The unit, which is a liaison between the rifle-toting military and the civilian population, has spent three tours in the hostile, deadly Anbar province, primarily the city of Fallujah, including during the 2004 battle to reclaim it from the insurgents.
For some of the Marines, this was their third tour. For others, this was their initiation to Iraq, which meant the first time dealing with roadside bombs, mortar attacks and grenades launched to kill.
