The Geneva Conventions in context

Andrew Sullivan challenged Andrew McCarthy's interpretation of the Geneva Conventions in his discussion of the Iranian kidnapping of the Brits. Sullivan gets lost in Abu Ghraid and Gitmo analogies which have no application. McCarthy's retort is a good brief on the application and non application of the Conventions. Sullivan attempts to turn them into a unilateral contract rather than an agreement between the "High Contraction Parties." If you read the linked article you will know more about the Geneva Conventions than Andrew Sullivan and 95 percent of the rest of the country. It is clearly written and easy to follow. It eschews the emotions of the other side.
