US oil production outpaces that of Russia to set new record

U.S. oil production broke 11 million barrels a day for the first time ever and surpassed Russia, making the United States the world's largest oil producer, according to the Department of Energy.US oil production will increase even more when the pipelines and other infrastructure are in place to get the oil from the Permian Basin to market. That should happen by 2020.
The milestone was announced Thursday as the Energy Department said oil production hit 11.3 million barrels a day in August, pushing past the Russian Ministry of Energy's August estimate that Russia's production was 11.2 million barrels a day.
The production growth was more than 400,000 barrels more than July's production of 10.9 million barrels a day, a 3.8 percent increase.
Texas production hit a record in August, reaching 4.6 million barrels a day. The output gains were driven by West Texas' Permian Basin and South Texas' Eagle Ford Shale, the two largest U.S. shale fields.
