Why all the empathy for Colin Kaepernick?

Politico:
The Martyring of Colin Kaepernick

How the NFL botched the quarterback’s protest and guaranteed the controversy will live on, whether he plays or not.
When Abe Lemons was the basketball coach for the University of Texas his players once asked him if they had to run so many wind sprints.  Lemons responded, "No, but then I don't have to play you either.

I think that is what NFL teams should do with all the players who disrespect the national anthem.  I don't feel the least bit of empathy for a bunch of millionaires taking a knee while troops who give them the freedom to make a  lot of money playing a game make a fraction of what they do.  I also do not respect the opinion of the liberal journalists who defend this disrespectful conduct.
