Apple reaction to FBI request on terrorist phone backfires on company

NY Times:
The prominence of the case has stimulated people worldwide to try to get into the device, and now the government has to check out their ideas.
The company and its customers would probably have been better off if they had quietly helped the Government find out what the terrorist was using his phone for and who he was in contact with.  Legally the companies position was constitutionally suspect to begin with and the public resistance has resulted in more people trying to break into their phones.
