Getting around the bottle necks in big cities

Washington Post:
Annoyed with cars taking shortcuts through their neighborhoods, impostors on the popular traffic app are reporting made-up wrecks and speed traps.
I first used the Waze app on a trip to California and it made dealing with complicated freeways manageable.  I now use it when I have to go into Houston and it has made a real difference by suggesting alternative routes to get around traffic.  If you do not have the app on your smartphone you should do so.

BTW, most of the alternatives in Houston are through business districts or on toll roads.  The problem in places like the Northeast is that there is a lack of alternative routes because the politicians want to push people onto mass transit.  That does not work for someone driving through the area on their way to somewhere else.
