Cruz continues to push for giving Christians a preference in refugee openings

Politico:
Ted Cruz on Thursday elaborated on his plan to allow Christian refugees into the U.S. while barring those from other religions, and accused President Barack Obama of having a poor legal basis to push back against his proposal.

“The president says it’s offensive to have any religious distinctions. You know, it’s interesting, existing federal immigration law says that a ground for refugees and asylum is religious persecution and Christians are facing religious persecution,” the Texas senator said on Fox News’ “Happening Now."

Cruz has been fighting back against Obama, who on Monday implicitly scolded Cruz for trying to bar Muslim Syrian refugees into the U.S. after last week's terrorist attacks in Paris.

Speaking at the G-20 conference earlier this week, Obama called the idea un-American. “When I hear political leaders suggesting that there would be a religious test for which person who's fleeing from a war-torn country is admitted, when some of those folks themselves come from families who benefited from protection when they were fleeing political persecution, that's shameful," Obama said. "That's not American. That’s not who we are. We don’t have religious tests to our compassion."

But Cruz on Thursday defended the idea on Fox.

Cruz said he introduced legislation to bar refugees from countries where terrorists control significant territory for three years. He has also proposed that Christians from the same places who are subject to genocide can come. But he cautioned “they have the burden of proof to prove by overwhelming evidence that they are indeed a member of that persecuted community.”

Obama seems top have an anti Christian bias.  He has allowed significantly more MUslims into the US than Christians despite the genocide that is on going against Middle East Christians.  He is in fact deporting Christian Iraqis who came here as illegal immigrants while granting amnesty to other groups.  He has also been seeking to deport German Christians who came to this country to home school their children.  Obama apparently does not even understand the law which requires him to take religious persecution into account for granting refugee status.  Cruz appears to have the better argument.
