NY Times:
He supporters do not seem to be swayed by the media manufactured controversies which seems to frustrate his opposition in the media and in Washington. The old "gotcha" questions seem to energize his supporters and leave his detractors frustrated. The media and the GOP establishment appear to be on the wrong side of the voters on the question of illegal immigration and Muslim refugees. Trump voices the anger of everyday Americans who have been told to shut up and go along. To defeat him it is going to take a better argument than his opponents have mustered so far.
When I was a corporate lawyer I occasionally ran into guys like Trump. They were always in a rush and when you would raise potential problems they would tell you to "handle it." They did not mean they wanted you to ignore the law. What they meant was that wanted you to find a legal way to solve the problem or manage it so that they could still achieve their objectives. I suspect he did not comprehend the deviousness of the reporter's question in this case, because he was thinking about another problem and not focused on the trap being laid.Trump Sets Off Furor With Call to Register Muslims
