Nineteenth century transportation rejected despite Obama push
Washington Post:
Trains have had a rebirth in the last few years, but it is one that is fueled by moving newly discovered oil to refineries. That is not what Obama had in mind, and the fact is that passenger rail is no longer a popular form of transportation because alternatives are more convenient and give people more options. Passenger rail was a boon when the alternative was a horse drawn carriage. But cars and even buses take people where they want to go. The bullet trains to bankruptcy could not attract private investment and the states who were willing to go along with Obama are only creating more debt that will not be paid off by rail passengers.
Obama’s vision for high-speed rail across the nation never left the station
Projects in Wisconsin and other states have been stymied by GOP opposition and public discontent.
