Politicians in Florida respond to school shooting with futile gesture?

NY Times:

Lawmakers in Florida Back Raising Age Limits for Guns

Gov. Rick Scott, a Republican, and top lawmakers in the state have proposed raising the age limit for gun purchases to 21, in what would be the most significant move toward gun control in Florida in decades.
With the average age of most mass murderers at around 33, this looks like a something that will not be particularly effective.  The same 18 year-old who would be banned from buying a rifle will be handed one by the military to defend our country.  Wouldn't he be better if he joined the military with some experience with the weapon?

It seems like the typical response of the anti-gun left when there is a gun crime to disarm the innocent.

The problem with the school shooter was not his age.  He was known by law enforcement at all levels to be mentally unstable.  From the FBI to the local sheriff there was a catastrophic failure to deal with his psychosis.

If the Sheriff had brought charges against him for his actions that caused deputies to be sent to his house some 29 times, the guy could not have bought a gun.  It is possible this was in response to Obama's ill-advised order to not charge young people for crimes.  Then there was the FBI's ignoring a clear and specific warning from a tip line about the shooter and his plans.

So ignore the failure of the only people liberals want to have guns and focus on denying them to innocent people seems to be the current answer to a problem caused by ignoring obvious warnings of a crazed killer.  Group punishment and vicarious liability appear to be the battle cry of the anti-gun left.
