New York terror attack a year in the planning stage

Officials allege he was inspired to carry out the deadly attack after watching ISIS videos

Officials said Sayfullo Saipov, a 29-year-old legal permanent resident of the U.S. originally from Uzbekistan, began plotting an attack a year ago. About two months ago, he “decided to use a truck in order to inflict maximum damage against civilians,” the charging document states.

He was charged with one count of material support to a terrorist organization and a count of violence and destruction of a motor vehicle in the attack that killed eight people.

He appeared to follow the ISIS script and apparently spent a lot of time studying their videos.  I thought his choice of a half-ton pickup was strange.  As can be seen by the photos the front of the truck was destroyed by running over people on a bike path.  ISIS operators generally try to get heavier vehicles in order to do more damage.  He not only left a note in teh truck claiming credit for ISIS but has waived his right to remain silent in the court where he was arraigned.
