Assad's army fails to retake Aleppo in first try

Daily Mail on Sunday:
Assad fails to retake Syria's second city after offensive against poorly armed rebel soldiers
That is a bit of a surprise.  They are holding off the army tanks with RPGs and using small arms fire to deter the infantry.  The attacks by choppers and aircraft have not been effective at dislodging he rebels. It is possible that the attrition of government forces may have reached critical mass. The army has lost people at all levels and may not have sufficient force and leadership to push the offensive.

Then again they could have been feeling out strong points so they can focus their air attacks.  We should know over the next few days.
