Defending the 'green jobs' fiasco

Politico tries, but the best it can come up with is say the jury is still out.  A hung jury is not much a recommendation for a program Obama claimed would create 5 million jobs but has by the most optimistic standards creates about 4,000.

It claims that most of the failed projects are in the solar industry and blames the problem on low cost imports from China.  That is an ironic problem considering Obama also said these jobs could not be exported.  Perhaps that is why he is imposing trade sanctions on the imports which will only hurt the jobs of those who install the panels.

It should also be noted that the solar portion if the grants are not the only failures.  Obama pushed expansion of battery manufacturing in the belief there would be a large increase in electric vehicles.  but auto buyers are not interested in vehicles with limited range and potential fire hazards.

One of the other problems with this bad bet on alternative energy is that innovation in traditional energy has already made the alternatives even less competitive despite the attempted market manipulation by the environmentalist.  With the vast quantities of cheap natural gas we can have cleaner air at less cost.  We already have cleaner air than Europe despite their cap and trade program.  Alternative energy has been a costly failure in Europe from Spain to Germany.

Meanwhile the cost of Obama's green jobs has been over a million dollars each. We are lucky he did not create 5 million jobs at that rate.
