Romney pushes Perry's immigration position beyond recognition

Houston Chronicle:
Former Massachusetts Gov. Mitt Romney’s presidential campaign is drawing parallels between Texas Gov. Rick Perry and President Barack Obama regarding their views on illegal immigration.
Romney’s side-by-side, entitled “Rick Perry and Barack Obama — the same on illegal immigration,” lays out two ways in which Perry and Obama adopt similar policies on immigration.
One is with Obama’s failed DREAM Act. The measure was defeated in the Senate last fall. But it still has the support of the Obama administration.
Perry signed into law a similar Texas DREAM Act, offering children of illegal immigrants in Texas in-state tuition to attend Texas universities.
The federal DREAM Act goes a bit further than Perry’s measure. It would offer children of illegal immigrants who complete two to four years of higher education or serve in the military an expedited pathway to citizenship.
Not quite “the same” as Perry’s Texas DREAM Act.
...
There is more.  Romney risks losing credibility on the issue by exaggerating the point.  He made that mistake on Social Security already.
