Laid off workers snapped up at job fair

I am not too surprised. The Medical Center in Houston is still a go to place for treatment around the world and it always looking for health care professionals. It is a dynamic part of the Houston economy. It is sad to see UTMD going through such tough times. It is not clear to me what the future is for the Galveston branch and whether the medical school will be moved inland.
Hospitals hired health professionals, especially nurses, on the spot Monday during the first day of a two-day job fair for the 3,000 employees laid off by the University of Texas Medical Branch at Galveston.There is much more.The demand for health professionals and a severe shortage of nurses made looking for a job a matter of choosing the best offer for many laid-off UTMB employees.
The job fair also was a boon for Houston-area hospitals that were among the 130 employers with tables at the Galveston Convention Center scooping up laid-off employees.
Hospital recruiters were happy to profit from talent being shed by UTMB, said Keith Manis, professional recruiter for the Harris County Hospital District.
