US sees a Venezuelan connection to the drug trade?

Washington Post:
U.S. sanctions Venezuelan vice president, calling him a drug kingpin

The Treasury Department said Tareck El Aissami, named vice president last month, helped facilitate drug shipments bound for Mexico and the United States.
I get the impression that the government of Venezuela has relied more on the drug trade since its botched handling of the oil business put it on the financial rocks.  The country has long been alleged to be acting as a conduit for drugs from Colombia's FARC terrorists.

Its connections were not limited to Mexico and the US.  According to reports in the UK media, planes from Venezuela would ferry drugs to West Africa and from there they would be transported to Europe by various Islamic terrorist groups.

The Venezuelan government is also alleged to have ties with Hezballah and other terrorist organizations and may be providing the terrorists with visas.
