Texas oil fields lead US production

Fuel Fix:
One Texas oil field has produced more than twice as much crude as any other field in the United States in recent decades.

According to a new report by the U.S. Energy Information Agency, the Eagleville field in the Eagle Ford Shale of South Texas is the number one oil field in the nation, churning out 238 million barrels in 2013 — enough to meet national oil demands for about 12.5 days.

The next ranking field, the Spraberry Formation, which is also in Texas, produced nearly 100 million barrels that year. Texas had two other fields, Briscoe Ranch and the Wasson, in the top ten; Alaska and the Gulf of Mexico were second in the group, while Colorado and California each had one.

Texas showed a significantly stronger presence in the EIA’s current top ten than it did in the agency’s last report in 2009.

Despite reduced spending companies are coaxing more oil out of the ground in these formations.  It is the sign of increased productivity that is keeping these well competitive with low cost producers in the Middle East.
