The problem with Baltimore

NY Times:
Guard Enlisted as Baltimore Riots Spread
Police Are Hurt, and a Curfew Is Set

Maryland’s governor activated the National Guard and the city of Baltimore announced a curfew on a day that began with the funeral of Freddie Gray, the nation’s latest symbol of police brutality, ended with rioting and at least 15 police officers injured.
To understand Baltimore, you need to watch The Wire.   The government has a history of corruption and the gangs have only been marginally controlled by aggressive policing.  Resentment about the aggressive policing boiled over because of the death of a man in custody.  The response on the local level to the anger has resulted in a show of incompetence that allowed the rioters to spin out of control.  The rioters are fouling their own crib.  They will chase jobs and business from their area making things worse for the residents.

Things were not helped by the civil rights establishment and their angry tone of racial grievance.  The chances that the Rev. Al will calm the troubled waters are remote.  Those people and businesses who stay in the riot area will be socked with higher insurance premiums because of the incompetent response by the city's government.
