Former Marine Corps Commandant skeptical about Obama strategy in Iraq
Washington Times:
A former Marine Corps Commandant told an audience that President Obama’s strategy to defeat Islamic State militants doesn’t have a “snowball’s chance in hell” of succeeding. That is a lot of high level criticism. The current policy is unlikely to be effective. We are training the weakest of the four groups fighting each other in Syria and they have shown no competence in defeating any of the other three. We have yet to mount a concerted air campaign that strikes ISIL in Syria or attacks their logistic lines running into Turkey. While we have had limited success supporting Iraqi Kurds, the enemy has turned to attacking Syrian Kurds and we have no response. It is understandable why Gen. Conway would be dubious about our prospects.
Speaking at a conference in Washington, General James Conway, who served as the 34th Commandant of the Marine Crops at the end of the Bush administration and beginning of the Obama administration, said that he was skeptical that the U.S. had reliable ground forces in Iraq, the Daily Caller reported Friday.
