Are Protests Unsafe? What Experts Say May Depend on Who’s Protesting What

Public health experts decried the anti-lockdown protests last spring as dangerous gatherings in a pandemic. Health experts seem less comfortable doing so now that the marches are against racism.
There is no evidence that the protest against the lockdown spread the disease.  However, the recent spike in cases followed the two week incubation period following the Floyd protests.  The media has been reluctant to accept both conclusions because it is inconvenient to their narrative.  Fortunately, the current spikes involve most young people without the preexisting conditions that make the virus fatal.
