The decapitation of the Houthis

The Israeli Air Force launched a major airstrike on Houthi political targets in Sanaa, Yemen, on Thursday, killing the Houthi prime minister, defense minister, and chief of the general staff.

This was the result of a fleeting bit of actionable intelligence that determined the Houthi hierarchy would gather in several locations to listen to a babbling rant by Houthi chieftain Abdul Malik al-Houthi. This allowed a single Israeli strike to decapitate the regime. At least 10 high-ranking Houthi leaders were casualties, among them Houthi Prime Minister Ahmed al-Rahawi. Minister of Defense Major General Mohamed al-Atifi and Chief of General Staff, Major General Muhammad Abd al-Karim al-Ghamari. The Houthis are, naturally, claiming that none of this happened, the targets were all civilian, and if it did happen, it was only a flesh wound.

The strike was in response to a Houthi missile carrying a cluster munition that was fired at Israel last Friday. This significantly upped the ante. While Israel was willing to bat away drone attacks, firing cluster munitions at Israeli cities was a bridge too far. On Sunday, Israel struck multiple targets in Yemen, hitting a military facility near a presidential palace, a fuel depot, and two power stations.

The operation, code-named "Drop of Luck," was apparently carried out using standoff weapons rather than bombs. This would remove much warning and increase the level of surprise.

 Houthis are among some of the Muslims who have an irrational hatred of the Jewish state.  By attacking Israel, they triggered a FAFO response.  You would think that they would eventually leave Israel alone and stop poking the superior power.

Drones appear to be replacing jets for many operations.  The Russia-Ukraine war is an example of that.  Drones are often hard to detect and can be used for intelligence operations as well as for attacking enemy targets.  It would not surprise me to see drones engaging other drones in combat.  They also cost much less than manned fighters.

Apple's huge investment in US including Texas facility

Blaze: Apple announced a $500 billion commitment to infrastructure in the United States over four years, its largest commitment to domestic spending to date. Apple said it will expand teams and facilities in Arizona, California, Iowa, Michigan, Nevada, North Carolina, Oregon, Texas, and Washington as part of its new spending. With a new facility in Houston, Texas, Apple will reportedly double its investment in advanced manufacturing along with increasing investments in AI and silicon engineering. The company said in a press release that the Houston facility will produce servers to support Apple Intelligence, the "personal intelligence system that helps users write, express themselves, and get things done." ... The Texas facility will be for advanced technologies.   Texas has become a place that is very supportive of the tech industries.  Austin and Houston have seen much of the tech growth in the state.  Texas universities have been active in the AI field.
