Red States are growing and Blue States are not

Democrats have even more to be worried about concerning their future prospects, as the Electoral College is currently on track to tilt even more against them after the 2030 Census.

Texas, Florida, and other red states are expected to gain millions of new residents by the next census, while liberal strongholds such as New York and Illinois are tracking for a major decline. If a mid-decade census were to take place this year, GOP-controlled states would ultimately pick up five additional seats in Congress.

This would, in turn, provide red states with five additional electoral votes, while reliably blue states would lose five votes. That shift alone, according to the New York Times, could have devastating consequences for the Democratic Party’s hopes for winning the White House.

During the 2024 presidential election, Democrats had a total of 25 different potential paths to take a majority of electoral votes, the report said. However, by 2032, under current projections, they would have only five. Not even the once stalwart Democratic “blue wall” of Pennsylvania, Michigan, and Wisconsin, plus swing states like Nevada or New Hampshire, will be enough to secure them a presidential victory.

Aside from structural issues, Democrats are experiencing political woes as well, the report says. The party has still not recovered from its losses during the 2024 election season. Fundraising has dropped significantly, along with voter registration. Leadership is confused and lacks a cohesive vision.

The New York Times suggests that one of the few paths forward to help rehabilitate the Democratic Party is by investing heavily in the South. Demographic shifts in states like Georgia and Texas offer small opportunities to the left. This is mostly due to population growth in urban areas being largely driven by minorities.

The blue state model is losing population becasue it is not working to benefit many of its population.  Texas and Florida are teh destination states for those dissatisfied with their current blue state leaders.
