Schumer accused of holding up Trump appointments

In his post, Trump blasted Schumer, dubbing him “Cryin’ Chuck” and alleging the senator demanded $2 billion in funding for the National Institutes of Health and foreign aid as a condition for approving hundreds of Trump’s nominees.

“Politically embattled Senator, Cryin’ Chuck Schumer, wants the Republicans to pay, as extortion, two billion dollars in order for the radical left Democrats to approve the hundreds of Trump appointments who have been waiting for months, and are raring to go,” Trump wrote.

He urged Republicans to draft legislation to break free from what he called “country-hating thugs,” emphasizing the need for swift action to counter the Democrats’ tactics.

With lawmakers leaving Washington on Monday without a resolution, Senate Republicans expressed growing exasperation over Democrats’ blanket filibustering of Trump’s nominees, with only Secretary of State Marco Rubio securing a smooth confirmation.

Sen. Markwayne Mullin, R-Okla., signaled support for a potential rule change to bypass filibusters, allowing nominees to pass with a simple majority.

“I think that way is going to happen anyways, because of what Schumer has done. He’s forced this, and it’s ridiculous that he’s doing this,” Mullin said, framing the move as a necessary reaction to Democratic obstruction.

Schumer's demands do look like extortion.   Filibusting appointments look like the real threat to democracy.
