Rural areas are hit harder by energy costs.
- Atlanta, Georgia-area residents felt the brunt of the nationwide high inflation rates, as the cost of goods in the city rose nearly 8 percent over last year
- St. Louis, Missouri and cities in Arizona also saw some of the largest inflation rates, while more moderate increases were felt in Houston, Baltimore, Detroit, Miami and Seattle
- Large liberal cities like New York and San Francisco saw some of the lowest increases, as people moved out of the cities and into those in more conservative states
- Inflation nationwide has reached its highest point in 31 years, as prices of everyday consumer goods rose 6.2 percent in October 2021 - the highest it has been since November 1990
