In a split in the coalition supporting the Islamic State of Iraq and Syria, the militants clashed with a Baathist faction allied with them, Iraqi security officials said.

The problem for Iraq is it lacks politicians shrewd enough to exploit any split between factions that are making war against it.  In fact the attacks have driven the government closer into the arms of the radical Shia militia.   At this point there do not appear to be any good guys in this fight other than the Kurds who want to be left alone.
