The Democrats' Catholic problem
NY Times:
The abortion issue is still a dividing point in US politics and it helped to propel George Bush to two victories. Don't be surprised if it does the same for Romney and Ryan. The Democrats will help in that regard with their abortion fest convention this year. Attempts to tie abortion opponents to the goofy ideas expressed by Congressman Akin will only anger and energized the anti abortion voters as much if not more than the pro abortion choicers.
To be clear, I am not a Catholic, but I do believe we should respect the religious beliefs of those who support life over death. That is not too much to ask of the choicers.
Democrats continued to show their hostility by turning down an offer by Dolan to offer a prayer at their convention. Church leaders object to Obama's fiat that would require them to violate their conscience and have filed suit against HHS to stop the dictate. Since then the Times has also been showing its own hostility resurrecting old grievances that have nothing to do with the disagreement on providing contraceptives and abortifacients.Invitation to Cardinal Shows G.O.P.’s Catholic Push
