Veteran Day 2024
I was the Executive officer of a company of Marines near the DMZ when we came under a mortar attack in Vietnam. We suffered about a dozen casualties including myself. I called for a medivac flight and was the last one on the chopper as we were taken to the medical facility in Dong Ha.
A few days later I was taken to Da Nang where I spent about a week in the hospital before being put on a flight to a hospital in Guam. After a couple of weeks there I was eventually put on a flight to the Naval Hospital in Bethesda Maryland where I spent a few months before being put on an inpatient subsisting out status as they worked on a medical discharge.
From there I went to law school at the University of Texas finishing the three-year course in two years. I have no regrets about my time in the Marine Corps and still have a high regard for the Troops I served with. I eventually became the general counsel to the oldest investment banking company in Texas. When I left there I was general counsel to a specialty retailer with a thousand stores most of which were in the US.
I have been retired now for nearly 20 years. I built a home in rural Texas where I still reside. I still have fond memories of the Marines I served with in Vietnam.
