A candidate should have a chance to defend himself

NY Times:

Trump Officials Urge Caution on Judging Roy Moore as Senators Pull Support

Officials said that Mr. Moore, the Alabama Senate candidate accused of pursuing romantic relationships with teenagers, should be allowed to defend himself against the allegations.
If the precedent that John McCain and Mitt Romney have urged in calling for Moore to withdraw without defending himself would have doomed both their candidacies early on.  McCain was accused of having an affair with a lobbyist and Romney was accused of not paying his taxes.  Both claims were wrong and they rightly continued to campaign.

If their calls were to become the norm it would only encourage more bogus charges about candidates to get them out of a race.  By not giving Moore an opportunity to defend himself it makes it look like a political hit job.
