27 killed in attack on Baptist Church in South Texas

A local citizen armed with a rifle confronted the shooter who dropped his rifle and took off. The man with a rifle gave chase in his own vehicle and the shooter was found in his crashed automobile dead from a gun shot wound. They still do not know if it was self inflicted or if the pursuing man shot him.
At least 27 people were killed and two dozen more injured when a gunman opened fire inside a crowded Texas church Sunday, according to reports.The race and religious affiliation of the killer has not been released as of the time of this post. Another mass shooting at a church in Tennessee was conducted by a black man who said it was in revenge for the shooting at a black church by an admitted racist who was tried and convicted of the crime.
The unidentified shooter walked into the First Baptist Church of Sutherland Springs just before noon and began firing, authorities said.
One of the shot victims is a 2-year-old child, the Dallas Morning News reported.
Wilson County Commissioner Albert Gamez, Jr. told CNN that first-responders informed him the death toll is at 27 — and expected to climb.
“My heart is broken,” he said. “We never think where it can happen, and it does happen. It doesn’t matter where you’re at. In a small community, real quiet and everything, and look at this, what can happen.”
The gunman fled in a vehicle, but cops caught up with him after a short chase, according to Gamez, who told CNN it was unclear whether cops killed the gunman or he turned the weapon on himself.
The church regularly posts its weekly services to its Youtube page, and investigators are now searching for video that could shed more light on what happened.
“Our prayers are with all who were harmed by this evil act,” Texas Gov. Greg Abbott posted on Twitter. “Our thanks to law enforcement for their response.”
The town — population about 400 — is roughly 30 miles southwest of San Antonio.
