By casting the election as the "resistance" versus Trump they made it easier for Republicans to win. Republicans may not be that happy with Trump, but they definitely do not want to support the agenda of the "resistance."
If Democrats are concerned about their brand, many things are causing it and political correctness and "resistance" are near the top.
