Looking into military happy talk about dealing with ISIL

NY Times:

Pentagon Examines Allegations of Skewed ISIS Reports

The inspector general is looking into a claim that military officials reworked assessments about the campaign against the Islamic State in Iraq to be more optimistic, according to several officials.
I suspect there are probably multiple reasons for this ranging from self delusion to trying to avoid future operations run by amateurs within the While House.   Recent comments by the retiring Army Chief of Staff show a more realistic awareness of the policy failures than the Pentagon has previously projected.  I fear we are getting closer to the kind of Dereliction of Duty that characterized the Pentagon's reaction to Johnson administration's mismanagement of the war in Vietnam.
