U.S. Is Seen as Lagging Behind in Scramble for the Arctic

Some lawmakers in Congress, analysts, and even some government officials say the United States is behind other nations, chief among them Russia, in preparing for the new realities facing the region.
You would think with his fixation on global warming he would have an interest in an areas that is going to become much more hospitable.  If he is right about it, the Arctic will become one of the more important trade routes shaving thousands of miles off trips from Asia to the East Coast of the US.  It should also be an important resource for minerals and energy.
