Do you wrap your food in money?
This is from the liberal defense of the Austin city wide bag ban which is under fire in the Texas legislature:
...
Gino Solla, Ector County Health Department director, disputed claims that reusable bags can make people sick.
“I can tell you as a public health official that claims that reusable bags cause illness do not hold water,” Solla said. “We handle these bags the same way we handle money, and people aren’t getting sick from cash. These claims are unscientific.”That is a week argument. Most transactions no longer involve cash to begin with and to the extent they do they don't involve intimate contact with the food and the money. Reusable bags allow food contagions to grow and fester within the bag and make contact with fresh foods placed in the bags. The number of food born illness has been shown to increase dramatically in cities that have bag bans and health officials recommend washing the bags after each use using bleach. How many people are going to do that?
...
The bag ban is a nuisance at best and is also nanny state environmentalism. I would like to see the legislature ban bag bans.
