A reminder of unpopularity of auto bailouts

NY Times:

Republicans See Politics in Chrysler Super Bowl Ad

It was an unwise ad, because it reminded at least 40 percent of their potential market what they did not like about the company and its products.  The administration has tried to suppress those thoughts and even was accused of suppressing a Ford ad where a buyer said it was one reason for choosing Ford.   The sentiment is still out there and it is pushing Ford sales without being stated.

If Chrysler and GM had gone through a traditional bankruptcy where the bond holders had not gotten screwed by what would have been illegal preferences given to the UAW, the opposition to the bailout companies would not have been so visceral.
