Suspicious in Russia

Guardian:

Putin assassination plot denounced as Russian election 'spectacle'

It does look convenient.  Putin has been trying to create a heroic image and this fits within that pattern.  He probably does not need it anyway.  His party seems well positioned to steal the election.
