Oil And Gas and the Texas Railroad Commission

The Railroad Commission is still one of the most important statewide offices in Texas. Last night I was in a Blogger conference call with Mike Williams discussing his reelection campaign as chairman of the commission. Mike is a former prosecutor who makes the case for the importance of greater domestic production.

There was a time when the Railroad commission actually regulated the production of oil and gas in order to maintain an orderly market. That ended in the 1970s when we went to 100 percent production to keep up with demand and Opec took over the role of regulating its own production to control high prices.

Lately it has been the Democrats who have done Opec's work for them strangling domestic production and making us more dependent on foreign sources for oil and gas. Mike understands this dynamic and forcefully makes the case for greater domestic production, not just in Texas. He is also working with school districts to covert buses to run on natural gas and propane produced in Texas.

I hope the new conversions are better than the one I had on 1975 Chevy three quarter ton pickup. The propane dried the seals causing the big engine to burn oil at a high rate. It also reduced the millage per gallon about 10 to 15 percent. Recently the price of propane has been keeping up with the price of gas, but all of the production is domestic.

Mike is a good guy and I am supporting him and John Cornyn in this year's only statewide non judicial elections.
