Isn't this a good thing?

From the UK Times:

Fears over drop in hedgehog road kill

Conservationists fear that a fall in the number of hedgehogs found dead on the road signals a decline in population.

...

Hedgehogs have been named as the animal second-most-likely to be run over after surveys of roadkill were conducted, but the numbers found dead are falling. Records have shown that the number of hedgehogs found dead on the roads has declined by up to 7.5 per cent annually since surveys began in 2001. Researchers fear that the lower death toll indicates a smaller overall population.

...

Here in Texas, we have not seen a decline in the number of armadillos as road kill. One of the critters was made famous when someone propped a long neck bottle of Lone Star beer on its belly to make it look like he had been drinking.

As for the Hedgehogs, do the conservationist want more road kill or not?
