Democrats accused of fueling assaults on ICE agents

During a Wednesday Homeland Security Committee hearing, Rep. Bennie Thompson (D-MS) interrupted testimony from Mike Howell, president of the Heritage Foundation’s Oversight Project, who accused Democratic politicians of fueling an 830% surge in assaults against Immigration and Customs Enforcement (ICE) agents from January 21 to July 14, 2025, compared to the previous year.

Howell stated, “The violence is getting out of control, and it is fueled by the demagoguery of politicians,” citing examples such as a congressmember’s arrest for interfering with federal officials and others advocating for violence to gain attention.

Howell’s testimony emphasized the increasing hostility toward ICE officers, stating, “Assaults against ICE officers are up over 830 percent.”

He urged Democrats to “stand down on their threats” against agents, pointing to incidents where armed extremists fired at federal agents and left-wing activists obstructed ICE operations.

Reports from The Daily Wire detailed how Democrats in Los Angeles shared hotel addresses hosting ICE agents, leading to protests that pressured at least one hotel to evict the agents.

Additionally, activists in the city supplied protesters with riot gear, including “over 100 pairs of work gloves, 50 helmets, and 500 masks at LA City Hall,” as one organizer claimed.

The reported 830% increase in assaults, combined with high-profile incidents like a congressmember’s arrest for impeding federal officers, highlights the escalating risks for ICE agents.
Democrats appear to think they benefit from illegal immigration.  Their hostility to ICE and immigration enforcement should become a political issue.  The majority of American citizens support immigration enforcement.

The past few weeks have seen several violent attacks targeting ICE and law enforcement. On June 7, in Los Angeles, left-wing agitators clashed with federal law enforcement and state and local police during anti-ICE protests.

A day later, in San Francisco, people were injured and an ICE field office was damaged. On Independence Day in Alvarado, Texas, a group set an ambush at the Prairieland Detention Center, wounding a police officer.

In the aftermath, 10 people were charged with attempted murder. Literature found on the scene implored “FIGHT ICE TERROR WITH CLASS WAR” and “RESIST FASCISM – FIGHT OLIGARCHY.”

Then, three days later, in McAllen, Texas, Ryan Louis Mosqueda ambushed Border Patrol agents, resulting in his death and injuries to law enforcement.

Days before this string of death, destruction and violence was unleashed, Washington Democrat Rep. Pramila Jayapal appeared intent to do the unleashing, referring to ICE as “a terrorist force” on June 2.
