Trump-Putin to discuss war in Europe
President-elect Donald Trump vowed to oblige Vladimir Putin to talk war and peace soon, saying ending the war was "one of the things I want to do and quickly."
"President Putin said that he wants to meet with me as soon as possible," Trump told Turning Point Action's America Fest speech in Phoenix, Arizona, on Sunday in a speech that aired on Newsmax and the free Newsmax2 streaming platform. "So we have to wait for this.
"But we have to end that war. That war is a horrible, horrible, the soldiers, the number of soldiers being killed."
Trump repeated his claim Russia and Putin would have never invaded Ukraine if he were president, hailing his best-selling hat that declares "Trump was right about everything."
"I saw it yesterday for the first time, and it's selling like hotcakes: It says, 'Trump was right about everything,'" Trump said. "And I don't want to brag, but we were right about just about everything, including foreign policy, these crazy wars that we're in."
Also, Hamas would have never attacked Israel on Oct. 7, Trump added.
"Got to stop it. It's ridiculous — would have never happened if I was president; that war would have never happened, and Oct. 7, Israel would have never happened either," Trump said. "So much of our country would be so different and the world would be so different. But it's not. So we have to make it great, and we're going to make it great.

I suspect Trump is probably right that the wars never would have started, since they clearly did not during his four years in office. But ending them may be difficult. The bloodshed already makes it hard for the two sides to compromise.
Hamas is just a shell of what it was before it started the war with Israel. If they don't agree to a deal they will be utterly destroyed the way the Nazis were. The Ukraine war will probably be more difficult to settle. However, the casualties of the Russian soldiers and the Ukrainian defenders have been significant. I believe Putin started that war because he feared that Ukraine would join NATO. The question is would Putin withdraw his troops if Trump agrees not to make Ukraine a member of NATO? Putin does appear eager to talk with Trump about ending the war.
