Iraqis figure out Iranian general not so brilliant?

NY Times:

After Costly Battles, Iraq Shifts Tactics in Fight Against ISIS

The hard lessons of the Tikrit offensive, which brought high casualties, have Iraqi officials thinking more cautiously about their next steps in the struggle against the Islamic State.
They are figuring out that mass infantry assaults with out proper air cover and mechanized units are very costly.  It was a lessoned learned in say the Civil War in the US and in World War I in Europe.  It takes more than superior numbers to win a battle.  The best tactics involve combined arms operations where infantry is combined with tanks and other mechanized assaults and coordinated with an air campaign.

It appears the Iraqis grew impatient with the US approach and opted to go with teh Iranian approach and and wound up suffering significant casualties.  It is not that ISIL is so good, it is that the tactics used against ISIL suck.
