Perry polling should aid fundraising trips
Houston Chronicle:
Texas Gov. Rick Perry’s dramatic gains in nationwide polls of Republicans and Republican-leaning independents could help the GOP presidential prospect entice Republican donors off the fence. Perry is hoping to quickly surpass the $10 million fund raising goal his campaign has set for the opening weeks of his bid for the White House. The liberal media has been running daily hit pieces on Perry, but they do not seem to be gaining any traction with the voters. Some have actually back fired further harming the credibility of a media seen by most conservatives as in the tank for Obama anyway. Firing all those blanks is creating some noise and smoke but it has not dampened teh enthusiasm for Perry with voters beyond those who were not going to vote for him anyway.
Gallup Polls show the three-term Texas governor overtaking the one-time frontrunner in the GOP presidential contest, dramatically boosting his nationwide recognition and achieving the highest overall favorability of all but one declared rivals.
The findings are bound to give Perry a boost as he heads out on a fundraising whirlwind that begins today with two events in Colorado before heading to four other states over the next week.
The latest Gallup Poll found Perry leading former Massachusetts GOP Gov. Mitt Romney 29 percent to 17 percent. That’s a change from Romney edging out Perry 17 percent to 15 percent before Perry announced his candidacy on Aug. 13.

What’s significant is that Perry is scoring these gains without some of the customary penalties that sometimes accompany surges in national polls.
The lanky Texan is now recognized by 67 percent of those surveyed – up 13 percentage points since he entered the race.
The late-comer has recognition to make up against Romney, recognized by 86 percent of respondents; Bachmann, recognized by 83 percent; and Paul, recognized by 78 percent.
But in what may prove to be a key political advantage, Perry is gaining recognition without increasing unfavorable opinion.
