Why there is a Memorial Day
Austin Bay:
It is a tragedy that so few understand what our troops are fighting for today. It is also a tragedy that so many Democrat politicians have obfuscated that understanding and denigrated the efforts of our troops. The Democrat position on the war in Iraq is the most disgusting thing I have seen since John Kerry was insulting those of us who fought in Vietnam.
Quoted material removed. You may read the original at the link above.I recently finished Bruce Catton's trilogy on the Civil War. It is worth reading, if for no other reason to remind us how incompetent the politicians were who blundered into that war, and how incompetent many of the generals were who led the fighting of it. There is another reason to read it. It gives perspective to the current wars where casualties haven't even risen to one percent of the casualties in the Civil War.
