Retreading the containment argument
Steve Chapman tries to make the case for using the cold war approach to the problems posed by the Islamic religious bigots making war against us. What he overlooks is that the cold war strategy worked because we had a return address to counterstrike. In the age of terrorism and lawfare, our enemies use the ambiguity of the return address to bog us down in courts and debates while they go on attacking non combatants.
If Iran gave Hezballah a bomb to explode in Manhattan Democrats would tie themselves in knots over whether to attack Tehran. They would be trying to get extradition papers served before the next bomb went off in Washington, DC. Fortunately Washington, Texas would not be on anyones target list, but a lot of Americas could be killed while the lawsuits are being filed.
