Real Estate declines everywhere but Washington, Texas?

Bloomberg:

Sales of previously owned homes in the U.S. fell in April and the supply of unsold properties reached a record, signaling no let-up in the 27-month housing slump.

Purchases declined 1 percent to an annual rate of 4.89 million, higher than forecast, the National Association of Realtors said today in Washington. The median price fell 8 percent from April last year, the second-biggest drop.

``There is no indication that things are improving,'' said Christopher Low, chief economist at FTN Financial in New York, who forecast sales would drop to a 4.9 million pace. ``Inventories will stay out of balance at least until the end of 2009 and prices will keep falling.''

...

Except here. I just got my notice of appraised value from the Washington County Appraisal District and discovered that my value has increased by over 42 percent in the last year. I am flabbergasted. If my property were for sale this would be a good thing. But, paying taxes on its appraised value is a bad thing. I may have to get involved in local politics.

  1. PP,
I am new here, but you have a good blog. I check in often. I live in Fl, and the taxes here are the previous years taxes. I know nothing about Texas, (except my shot glass says "Don't mess with...")
You can always appeal to the PA's office. If they raise it on everyone and only get 50 appeals.... they messed with everyone but 50.
