Obama failing the global test--with voters

Donald Lambro:

John McCain has been relentlessly pounding Barack Obama on his weakest ground: experience, fighting the war on terrorism and his judgment in world affairs.

And with good reason. Recent voter surveys show Mr. Obama's polls on these critical presidential leadership qualities are in the basement and that Americans trust Mr. McCain far more on all three issues than the youthful and inexperienced freshman senator from Chicago.

His scores aren't just so-so mediocre — they are failing grades that pose disturbing questions about the Democratic presidential front-runner's tissue-paper thin qualifications to be commander in chief and the leader of the Free World.

Consider these abysmal grades from a recent ABC/Washington Post survey that asked voters to compare Mr. Obama with the veteran Arizona senator:

• Regardless of who you may support, who do you think [Mr. Obama or Mr. McCain] has the better experience to be president? John McCain: 71 percent. Barack Obama: 18 percent.

• Regardless of who you may support, who do you think has better knowledge of world affairs?

John McCain: 65 percent. Barack Obama: 24 percent.

• Regardless of who you may support, who do you trust more to handle the U.S. campaign against terrorism?

John McCain: 55 percent. Barack Obama: 34 percent.

...

There is much more. There is a disconnect between what voters say on the issues and who they support in the election. The Republicans need to figure out what that is and fix it. I recently posted the results of a Rasmussen poll saying over 60 percent of voters favored lower taxes and less government, so how is it that a party that wants the largest tax increase in history and to expand government is leading in the polls? It makes no sense.
