Coal revival everywhere but US?

The NY Times discusses how the high price of oil has revived the coal business in places like Japan, South Korea and the UK. For some reason there was no mention of the Saudi Arabia of coal, i.e. the US. Perhaps that would defeat their goal, along with the Democrats, of strangling domestic production of coal as well as oil and gas. Tom Friedman would probably have a hissy fit if domestic coal production was encouraged.
