'You'll never have to carry your ice chest again'

It may look like a motorised fridge but to its proud, beer-loving owners in the US, the Cruzin Cooler is the American dream come true.

'It combines two basic necessities of life – somewhere to have cold food or a beverage handy, and the ability to get somewhere without walking,' says Chuck Miller, marketing director for its manufacturer.

Now the device is poised to trundle all the way to Britain, at a stately speed of 14 miles an hour.

Miller says the 'vehicle', priced at $500 (£250), has already sold 38,000 in the US, a place, after all, where even hats have side pockets for beer glasses.

And it says something about its intended clientele that its maximum rider weight is 21 stone.
