Iran has clandestine uranium enrichment operation

Jerusalem Post:

Israel believes Iran has a clandestine uranium enrichment operation beyond the one in Natanz and suspects that it is already working on warheads for ground-to-ground missiles, Defense Minister Ehud Barak said in an interview to the Washington Post published Saturday.

Barak said Israel believed "the Iranians are aiming at nuclear capability," even though "the may have slowed down the weapons [development] in 2003, because it was the height of American militarism [in Iraq]."

"We think that they are quite advanced, much beyond the level of the Manhattan Project," Barak stated, referring to the codename of the US's nuclear development project during World War 2. "It's clear that the real risk with Iran turning nuclear is that it will be the end of the non-proliferation regime because it will open the door on active proliferation," he said. "It's very dangerous that we will end up in 10 to 15 years with a nuclear device in the hands of terrorists."

The Washington Post story is now posted on its web site at the time of this post. I tend to believe the Israelis on this more than the NIE which suggested Iran had given up that idea. Barak seems smarter this go round in public life.
